DD: No more freeloading, suckas!

December 12th, 2005 by DirtyD

Nic Duquette at SnarkSmith posted awhile back on the lucre one can make by adding advertising to one’s blog. As a lazy purist, I’ve never bothered messing with it (just like I’ve never bothered changing this default WordPress UI).

But rereading the “essay” and looking at the numbers is making me reconsider:

So the natural question becomes: Do you have enough readership to attract advertising, and if you do, is it enough to live on?

The answer lies in the rest of the post. I definitely think TDNW could get me some beer money, at the very least. And during the halcyon days of September 2005, the traffic here would have generated enough ad revenue for me to “live a comfortable middle-class lifestyle. In Chad.”

Absent the blog ads and any sort of enforceable subscription technology, I’m going to resort to an old trick I learned from the church of my youth: guilt.

Hey – it works for public broadcasting.
